Hybrid is nice as well, but either ways, completely depends on you. Never fused them – keep OS and all my Apps on the SSD, used the HDD for iTunes/Photos and iMovie data – so separate disks, with zero issues. I moved my OEM 500GB HDD to the optibay, popped the dvd drive into an OWC external bay, which gets used once in a blue moon, and put a 500GB Crucial SSD into the HDD bay. Of late, I have had a few crashes, with the Report indicating it could be a memory issue, which means one of them might be on the way out, but I've ran it for 2.5 years now without any issues.
If you don't mind you can downgrade the OS (the lowest you can get on 2012 MBA is 10.7.4), that will probably reduce the amount. You need to make sure the amount of RAM is enough when you buy the machine.

Running 2x8GB Crucials with zero problems. Nope, the RAM on the MacBook Air is soldered in so you won't be able to upgrade it without breaking the computer. You might need to do a bit of fiddling, since I vaguely recall some had issues with screws not being included or something, but I may be wrong. By all accounts, the one above works as well, so why spend the extra $$ when you can get away for cheaper. I went for one from OWC – which is better quality, but then you pay significantly more. You can complete an online return RMA at: crucial.Not sure about the Buyer – but have seen that Caddy before – as indicated in the other thread, quite a few MyBB users installed that one. If your computer is running and the screen starts changing colors or just freezes and you have to do a force restart (followed by memory beeps) you will need to go to crucial website and do a warranty exchange. To check, wait for it to boot and then wait for the desktop to load.

If all has gone successfully, your Mac will automatically acknowledge the additional RAM. However, OSX should be able to do this on its own. Flip over your Mac, plug it in to a power supply if necessary, and power it up. This will clear out the processes that might be stuck in your memory. Open terminal, type into terminal, "sudo purge", and then it will ask you to enter your admin password. It might be helpful to try a purge of your memory in case the OSX is having problems handling the off market memory modules.

The computer still thinks it is attached to screen and when I try to power up from the laptop display the computer does not know how to start. Its something to do with the mac handling of the memory when attached to a different display, and then trying to power up the computer without the display attached anymore. The only way to fix this is to open computer and remove memory modules and then reboot.
